Too young - I was only 7 and started supporting as a result of that cup run...they were really great to watch - I'd say the most exciting London team at that time...loads of kids like me who weren't really from the East End ended up being fans because of that team...

I've always found Elland Road a bit off key...proper heathen in that part of the city...it's weird that a ground that old was put right on the edge of the city 100 odd years ago...instead of being more central - which is what you'd expect

I miss hearing the old song. "I'm dreaming of a Frank Lampard, just like the one at Elland Road, the ball came over, and Frank fell over, and scored the fucking winning goal, winning goal...."

Was still a schoolboy. Went to first game at Villa Park but couldn't get up to Leeds midweek on a school night for the replay.
Still remember listening to it on radio and going mental when Lampard scored at the end.

Remember driving down to west ham on the Monday after the first semi final to get the tickets for that Wednesday. Stood along the side and going berserk when Frank got the winner. Seems like yesterday.
Didn't the other semi final go to about three replays as well?

Thanks for asking , yeah he's fine now , few noticeable scars
For some years but you would hardly notice now .

Unfortunately I rarely see him now as he since split with my sister

The cruelest irony was although a West Ham fan he rarely if
Ever went to football as he was a supermarket manager and worked on Saturdays , so he only came as it was his Wednesday off.

I recall magical moments of the day , of course Devo's goal and the celebration after Franks winner but the events later clouded all other memories of the day .

John Cleese is a big West Ham fan apparently so entirely possible he was there.
Believe he started to go in the 1960’s when he moved to London.

‘I can take the despair. It’s the hope I can’t stand’
Anyone who wrote THAT has to be a West Ham fan

One of my greatest memories.
I remember the ref disallowing a perfectly good Bonzo goal in normal time.
I was directly behind the flight of Frank's header and as someone else said everything seemed to slow down and I was convinced that it was going to hit the post and come out. Cue pandemonium
Was also in the car park when the bricks came flying over and one landed on my mates car.
Amazing day

Re: West Ham v Everton , FA Cup Semi-Final replay, Elland Road, 1980
Great reading through this thread.
Without googling the following season we broke the record for most points/goals.
What a cracking bunch of players we had.i don't think I missed a single home game that season we knew we were a team to march all.Devoshire at his best. What a brilliant footballer?
I still follow Weat Ham always will but the old days, the players, the terrace passion, working class blokes supporting their local team are a distant memory now.

Terry Brady - what a great reply mate amongst many, many great replies.

Your line - 'when we were kings' - choked me up a bit bud.

We WERE kings back then, those times will never be repeated and we were blessed to be amongst it.

best wishes,
Yarmouth.

Crassus,

fuck knows where it went. In my case, a divorce, a daughter, a very bad break up recently, both parents gone, lived Mid East for about 10 yrs.

Now a grandfather, retired, still and always will love/hate West Ham..

But that period was without doubt purely magical. Blessed to be a part of it.

Best wishes mate,
Yarmouth

I can still see in my head Frank's header creeping inside the post. It seemed to be in slow motion, and then everyone went completely mental. I don't think I've ever bettered that moment. I didn't know what to do with myself.
I too remember sitting in the car park while Leeds (I think) yobs chucked bricks at the cars. Luckily, we were far enough away to avoid it.

Didn't go but remember tuning into the radio the commentary on both our goals made the hair on the back of your neck stand up, classic West Ham under the lights.

To those who were there a mate who went insists he saw John Cleese there, can anyone confirm this?

Have to echo what has been said previously fantastic time to be a West Ham fan in that era, we were a 2nd tier team and beat WBA, Villa, Everton and Arsenal all top tier teams on the way, that will never be beaten.

I was there ,our Union Jack is washanging over the first tier ,,some people think the flag racist but another little firm who l used to know had one a bit more sinister it was a red flag with a white circle ,but instead of the swazstika it was the crossed hammers ,also remember the rock battle in the coach park was way worst than anything parked up near Central Park !
